Enjoy Mother's Day in the heart of Cape Town! At Trees Restaurant, we'll be serving our mom's favourite dishes ... traditional recipes made truly special with intriguing, complementary ingredients. Food that's as comforting as a mother's hug, and a dessert that is just as sweet! Your mom will be spoilt for choice - because she deserves it! See the menu here...

The emphasis for the Mother's Day menu served at Trees Restaurant in Cape Town's CBD will be on our mom's favourite dishes... traditional recipes made truly special with intriguing, complementary ingredients and a dash of contemporary spin.

There will be soups to start followed by a trio of pastries topped with: smoked salmon trout, sour cream and pickled cauliflower; cured ostrich with homemade pineapple chutney; and Boerenkaas cheddar with homemade grape jam and caramelized walnut.

Then it's time for the main event: what will your mom choose? Traditional style oxtail stew? Roasted, fig-glazed chicken stuffed with chicken sausage, liver, gizzards, mushrooms and herbs? Battered hake with smoked-snoek fish cakes, topped with garlic mussels and herb aioli? Lamb pie filled with kidneys, riblets and diced roast leg? Or Cape Malay tripe curry with sambals? She'll be spoilt for choice!

Of course no Sunday lunch is complete without an array of side dishes: there'll be roti, fragrant basmati rice, crispy potato wedges with sea salt and vinegar, umngqusho, roasted root vegetables and that all-time South African favourite: creamy spinach.

For dessert, there's white and dark chocolate mousse gateau with orange compote, lavender tuille and guava sorbet, or granny smith apple tart with Klein River grubert cheese, organic rooibos mascarpone spread and butternut raisin compote.

Doesn't it all sound like a feast fit for a South African queen? People have moved to Cape Town for less! And you get to spoil your mom with all this right in the heart of the Mother City!

Trees Restaurant is cleverly designed to maintain an air of intimacy and romance. Large glass windows overlook a leafy avenue below and one almost forgets one is in the heart the CBD of the most beautiful city in the world. Contemporary ladder-back chairs and origami-inspired lampshades lend an air of chic sophistication, and the welcome could not be warmer.

Guests know they can look forward to dishes and homemade desserts based on a simple, classic style. Favourites include the slow-braised oxtail we're serving for Mother's Day.

Chef Stefan Schmidt, who gained his experience in Germany at a Michelin starred restaurant, moved to South Africa to take up a senior position at Blaauwklippen and then at the Grand Roche Hotel.
