While the thought of a Cape Town wedding in the middle of a Cape Winter will give many brides a shiver right down their spine on even the warmest summer day - getting married in the winter (even in Cape Town) definitely has its perks.
You might have to let go of many of the fun and trendy ideas that go with summer - you won't easily choose a Moroccan type tent on the lawn or a beach wedding or a small wedding atop Table Mountain nor will you be able to have your photographs done in the late afternoon or have your guests hovering outside while you get yourself together but...
It is clear that May June July and August are the least popular months for weddings. You can translate that as, “Get married in May June July and August and you are likely to find many discounts.”
Money may not be very romantic, but the truth is weddings are expensive. Couples can save hundreds, if not thousands, of Rands by getting married in the quiet season.
You are likely to find everything from bands and deejay's, caterers, photographers, videographers and even venues who will gladly knock the stuffing out of their normal prices, simply because business for them is so slow at this time of the year. There are also many suppliers who offer standard discount rates or offer added extras at this time of the year.
In addition, space availability seems endless by comparison with the summer months and you should be able to secure ceremony and reception sites without any problems (apparently very little happens between May and August). In particular if you can plan around the mid year school and varsity holidays most people you invite are likely to be able to attend. Bear in mind too, that if you have guests coming from afar they too will benefit from this time of the year with airfares and hotel rates a shadow of their summer rates
So you might have to put up with a little rain (although we probably have more good than bad winter days in Cape Town these days) and you won't be able to wear that skimpy summer frock you had set your mind to but you will have a great wedding and you will start your life off together with more than just a tad more money in the bank or you could well have experienced a wedding that otherwise would have been out of your reach.
With a little bit of imagination and perhaps some gluwein to kick start the reception you could well enjoy the wedding of a lifetime in one of the most beautiful cities in the world..
