INFOTECH: BPeSA W Cape Takes Over CallingtheCape

Recent Western Cape Business News

CallingtheCape has aligned with BPeSA in a move aimed at streamlining the BPO sector in South Africa.

This alignment is the logical progression, if you look at established BPO providers in countries like India and the Philippines they all operate under one governing body. This eliminates confusion for potential investors,” says CEO of BPeSA Western Cape Sipho Zungu.

As a national coordinating body, BPeSA represents the interests of the business process outsourcing & offshoring sector in South Africa, serving as the first point of contact for foreign investors in the BPO sector. It addresses key industry challenges including policy advocacy, affordable telco pricing, quality assurance and skills development.

The call centre industry is key to the financial development of the province and in 2008 contributed R3 billion to the Western Cape economy.

The Western Cape is one of the best places to outsource to in South Africa; they provide a large pool of highly skilled labour, excellent infrastructure, cater for various languages, have cultural affinity with many markets and are well positioned to Europe in relation to time zones.  Being aligned with the national body will help strengthen the BPeSA overall brand which will benefit the South African BPO sector as a whole,” says Bulelwa Koyana interim CEO BPeSA.

According to Zungu, the alignments with BPeSA will not impact negatively on the Western Cape’s ability to promote itself as an investment destination.  “We will still work closely with the Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town, the only difference is that we will now have the added resources of BPeSA available to us.”

BPeSA Western Cape is a Section 21 company that promotes Cape Town and its surrounding areas as destinations for national and international investment in contact centres and business process outsourcing. Formed in 2001, BPeSA Western Cape is funded by member contributions as well as by local and provincial governments.
