REFRIGERATION: Pam Finds Favour On The Seas

Recent Western Cape Business News

TO provide its clients with efficient and reliable refrigeration systems which are simple to operate and to maintain, is the aim of Pam Refrigeration, according to Evert Potgieter, managing director.

Most of our plants are fully packaged and tested in our factory in Milnerton, before being sent to sites which are mostly in remote areas beyond the borders of South Africa,” Potgieter says.

We have full control over the quality of workmanship and materials in our workshops. Once completed, we test - or pre-commission on larger systems where our factory power supply is not large enough - the plant to make sure performance is according to specification and what was offered. This assurance gives our clients peace of mind and confidence that the plant can be operated where sited. Most of the sites have very limited supportive infrastructures, no skilled labour and even basic engineering consumables are difficult to source locally,” Potgieter says.

Clients accept the plant as being fully operational in Pam’s workshop. The company then contracts to commission the plant on site and to train local staff to operate the plant and to do routine maintenance.

Approximately 80% of the plants installed by Pam Refrigeration since being founded in 2003 have been for clients outside South Africa and many have been for the fishing industry e.g. Flow Ice systems for fishing trawlers, land based blast freezers and cooling for under water accommodation for personnel servicing off shore oil platforms. Each plant is tailor-made to suit the requirements and operating environment of the client.

Our latest development has been an packaged ammonia ice maker with an output of 7 tons of Flow Ice (20% concentration) per hour. The package has a mini Grasso GS screw compressor driven by a 90kw motor and has a thermo siphon oil cooling system. The design is based on the LPR concept which reduces the required charge to a minimum,” says Potgieter.
