VENTURES: Leading The Pack In W Cape

Recent Western Cape Business News

PART of the Reynolds Group, African Access Rental, which was established in 1999, continues to grow in leaps and bounds without showing any signs of slowing, says Seumas Reynolds, owner and founder of the Reynolds group.

Reynolds says solid relationships with suppliers are essential when investing in mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS), as the investment is large and warranties and support critical.

The last ten years of relying on Nhlapo Access Platforms Services (NAPS) as our supplier of JLG products has paid off and helped us focus on our core business - rental,” Reynolds says.

He has many years experience working in the on-site hire trade.

This has resulted in the continued growth of his then fledgling firm. His main advantage was intimate product know-ledge, which helped him to achieve the key aims of cost-effectiveness and product reliability.

It has been ten years of investment, equipment upkeep, professional staff recruitment and customer focus that has resulted in African Access Rental leading the market with successful rental of the JLG mobile elevating work platforms in the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape regions.

Our rental sales team has not only proven their customer service ability, but delivers on its promises time and time again. Ensuring the perfects mix – safe and reliable product, on time deliveries, AAR personnel attention, familiarisation and handover in line with legislation and a happy customer,” adds sales manager Brent Viljoen.

Our clients run the mobile elevating work platforms 24/7 and the JLG product gives us the return, reliability and record savings on maintenance and upkeep.”

In fact the majority of our clients ask for JLG,” Viljoen says. He adds that NAPS remains their supplier of choice and is a clear example of what a supplier should be to the rental industry. “We believe that because NAPS only sells and services JLG product and does not compete in the rental industry, it is simple for them to focus on our needs and provide our required back up.”

African Access Rental recently purchased JLG MEWPs from NAPS for expansion of its rental fleet.

We can now offer up to 40m working heights with 19.25m horizontal out reach amongst many other,” says Viljoen.

In addition all our people are accredited to provide handover and familiarisation training to our clients which makes our high quality of service legal and in line with the SETA AAR remains committed to training and educating our staff which enables us to keep up with technology and developments in our industry.”

The company has since added equipment from the ccea large range of scissor and personnel lifts, electric and diesel powered boom lifts and trailer mounted access platforms. African Access is a popular supplier to the demanding and deadline-sensitive Cape Town film industry as well as the marine and construction sectors.

Currently, a staff of 31 employees includes six mobile maintenance teams for on-site repairs and support for clients. To ensure total compliance with safety standards African Access has a complete stock turnover for its fleet every five years.

Reynolds says the future remains focused on expansion and already the AAR footprint is touching Gauteng and surrounding areas. With the amount of orders on hand and in the pipeline, growth in staff, region and fleet size is inevitable. “The Institute for Work at Height is key for the future development of the industry and we believe with support it will grow form strength to strength.”

The latest business venture that Reynolds is involved with is the construction of the 2010 Green Point and Port Elizabeth Football Stadiums.

African Access is the preferential supplier of access lifts used for the erection of the stadium roofs which are being built by the largest industrial roof company in the world.

The Reynolds Group has also been one of the leading suppliers for construction and industrial equipment used on site.

With the Soccer World Cup just around the corner there are many tight deadlines to meet and great importance is placed on finishing stadiums on time. The Reynolds Group has helped this process by making sure it is available at all times with equipment that is needed and, most importantly, excellent service by a dedicated team.
