MARKETING: Conferences Key In Tough Times

Recent Western Cape Business News

THE economic downturn is forcing many companies to review their conferences and functions plans as they seek greater value while nevertheless ensuring that their goals are achieved.

According to Harold Johnson, founder of Johnson Crane Hire and now successful wine farmer and owner of two leading conference venues, Calders Hotel and Conference Centre and Zevenwacht Wine Farm , failure by companies to hold regular conferences and functions can have a demoralising affect on staff and can lead to uncertainty in the minds of customers

There is no doubt that regular and professional conferences serve to motivate staff at all levels and ensure that they are kept informed of company plans and objectives. Similarly, the interaction which is achieved with customers at a professional function is invaluable in winning confidence in uncertain times and creating a favourable climate in which to do business.”

Johnson says most companies are having to look critically at their spend on these events but cannot afford to be seen to be taking short cuts. “Companies are seeking to take staff and customers away from the distractions of the city but need to minimize costs by not travelling too far. At the same time they need to be comfortable in the knowledge that the venue is equipped with the best conference equipment and technology as this is the difference between a successful conference and a failure.”

Johnson says the twin conference venues of Calders and Zevenwacht meet all the criteria of successful conferencing and functions which is why both have become attractive for large and small organizations. Calders is situated next to Fish Hoek’s beach, less than an hour away from Cape Town, and offers advanced conference equipment. It also offers superior accommodation for those staying overnight. In-house catering is available while there are a variety of restaurants within walking distance.

Similarly, Zevenwacht is equally well equipped and as one of the closest wine farms to Cape Town and a 20 minute drive to the airport ,is well used by local and international companies as well as private users who have established it as a favourite wedding venue. As with Calders it offers superior accommodation , fine dining and a range of conference and function facilities which can be tailored to meet individual requirements.
