DEVELOPMENT: New Accelerate Plan
Recent Western Cape Business News
Accelerate Cape Town has launched a new interactive website designed to connect Cape Town company owners with each other and international business and investment opportunities. Sponsored by Chevron, and called Connect’d Cape Town, the website can be found at www.connectdcapetown.com and will allow users to search for business-related events in the Western Cape as well as for services and collaborative opportunities relevant to their sector.
“For a long time, there has been a feeling among business leaders in the province that the region is not capitalizing, commercially, on the large number of visitors to the area who are here for reasons other than a specific business trip. There is also strong evidence from elsewhere in the world that a concerted effort to showcase the business possibilities of a region to visitors can be an extremely effective way of driving growth and investment,” said Guy Lundy, CEO of Accelerate Cape Town. “Connect’d Cape Town was established to do exactly that. With the website, we aim to showcase local skills and expertise, and to attract and facilitate significant investment and business opportunities to the Cape Town City Region.”
How Connect’d Cape Town works
An international visitor’s first contact with Connect’d Cape Town is through www.connectdcapetown.com. The site does not aim to be a complete listing of companies in the Western Cape . Instead, events such as conventions will be used to drive applications from interested parties in order to build online communities of interlinked organizations with mutual interests.
Events for inclusion in Connect’d Cape Town have been carefully selected to help drive Accelerate Cape Town’s long-term business vision and key goals for the region, which can be accessed at www.vision2030.co.za. These goals are encapsulated in the vision for Cape Town to be Africa’s global city – a city of inspiration and innovation.
Companies within the province can apply to be listed on the Connect’d Cape Town website. All applicants’ details will be verified to ensure a credible business community is built. Visiting businesses or business people – including those from overseas or the rest of South Africa – can also apply.
Listed members will be able to search for suitable commercial partners they may wish to partner with. Connect’d Cape Town will facilitate these connections, either directly through the site or at face-to-face meetings at associated events. Plans are underway for Accelerate Cape Town to establish a permanent networking space within the Cape Town International Convention Centre, where parties who have connected through the site can meet and where walk-in visitors can set up connections.
“We believe that, used correctly, Connect’d Cape Town is an important means of uniting successful business owners in the Western Cape with their counterparts in the rest of the country and the world,” adds Lundy. “The global economy depends on relationships and this is an important step in ensuring that business in the Western Cape has links beyond its borders.”
