ENGINEERING: Strong Base Of Customers Sustains Elite
Recent Western Cape Business News
ELITE Fibre says it’s now South Africa’s leading manufacturer of GRP rigid bodies, i.e. insulated, refrigeration, GRP covered plywood and ‘bread bodies’ for all the large bakeries.
The client base has expanded to include many that operate large national fleets e.g. Parmalat, Albany Bakery, Clover, Blue Ribbon, Liebentrans, Pick ‘n Pay, Shoprite Checkers, Freshmark, Fast and Fresh and Laser Cold Chain Distribution, to name a few.
Elite Fibre also received from these clients many single orders exceeding 20 bodies and more, says Mark Watters of Elite Fibre.
Although the core business of Elite Fibre is the manufacture of rigid GRP vehicle bodies, the volume of new trailers built in the last three years has shown significant growth year on year and now accounts for approximately 40% of the number of new bodies built yearly Cape Town and Johannesburg.
In 2004, Elite Fibre bought Stargate Bodies in Johannesburg, a company with a reputation for service and quality of product in GRP vehicle bodies. In 2005 Elite Fibre Gauteng moved to larger premises to accommodate the increase in the volume of business.
Repairs to GRP bodies remains a priority at Elite Fibre and of the average 10 repairs received per day, 8 leave the same day.
“Service and quality of product is of prime importance and is very evident in the lasting strength and performance of our bodies. In particular our trailers have shown excellent performance and are largely due to there being no compromise on the amount of materials used, quality of materials and workmanship. There are no short cuts or skimping on materials as this will only result in come backs and product failures. Our quality of workmanship stems from our reliable and committed staff of whom 90% have been with us since day one and are well known to all our clients,” says Mark Watters.
