PRINTING: Restructuring Paarl Print

Due to the major concentration on the well-being of the staff of Paarl Print in the period immediately after the fire, the Paarl Media Group extended the payment of gross salaries and wages until the end of June 2009 to ensure that all options were investigated thoroughly.
Through a consultative process with a forum comprising of SATU, CEPPWAWU and non-unionized representation, an agreement was reached in principle to conclude the proposed restructuring process by 17 July 2009. Whilst consultations in this regard are on-going, all employees will receive their normal remuneration up to 17 July 2009. From 18 July 2009 a staff complement approximating 200 will be taken forward in the newly agreed structure of Paarl Print. All individuals taking up positions in the new structure will receive their normal remuneration, inclusive of benefits, and accommodated inside the Paarl Media Group until such time that the equipment for the re-established Paarl Print arrives.
The initial equipment purchased by the Paarl Media Group will be housed on the premises of Paarl Web until Paarl Print can be fully re-established by April 2010 on these premises. The first equipment is expected to arrive in August/September 2009. This equipment will comprise of printing presses with the bulk of the equipment for pre-press and post press arriving in the first quarter of 2010, meaning that Paarl Print should be re-established on the site of Paarl Web by April/May 2010.
