POWER SUPPLY: Big Engines For Telkom
Recent Western Cape Business News
SUPPLIER of engines, complete propulsion and power systems in southern Africa, MTU South Africa, recently had two of its latest 20 V 4000 power engines installed at the Telkom site in Cape Town by DGT Power Systems.
The project included the installation of a 14000l bulk diesel tank with silencers and 55m of exhaust pipes, several on-roof cooling towers, pumps, piping and a ventilation system as well as all electrical installations. Furthermore a N+1 Plc automatic source selection distribution board was implemented. This project required alterations to the Telkom building.
“The decision for us to make use of the MTU engines in this project was solely based on performance, reliability and the limitation in space available,” says Thys Ackermann, managing director of DGT Power Sytems.
As the approved supplier for TFMC and Telkom, DGT Power Systems assembled all major components for the generator set at their factory in Bloemfontein. The generating sets were installed in record time of 60 days.
The MTU driven sets deliver each 2.500 kVA in Prime Power application and will operate as an emergency back–up for critical consumers.
With a power range of 300 – 3,300 kVA, MTU and Detroit Diesel Engines offer a wide spectrum of products that are best known to all major OEMs in South Africa and around the globe.
