TRANSPORT: A Blanket Solution
Recent Western Cape Business News
THE innovation of providing refrigeration in road, rail and sea transport revolutionised the movement of perishables. But the cost of keeping refrigerated vehicles on the road is at a premium. That’s why operators are looking seriously at solutions that can be implemented to assist in saving running costs.
A fairly recent addition to the local perishables transport industry has been the arrival of a range of products from one of the world’s leading companies in this field, Combi-Therm A/S of Denmark. Their materials are unique to their manufacturing process which creates an exceptional blanket like insulation to keep cold things cold or hot things hot.
This range of products is manufactured to specification and can be used in refrigerated or non-refrigerated transport.
The pallet cover allows for maximum protection from cold or heat and can also be used to maintain cold temperatures.
The same can be said of the cage roll-tainer cover which is a good solution for the delivery of perishables from a distribution centre to a store. Thermal blankets are a quick and easy way to protect temperature sensitive goods in smaller trucks.
The attractive part of the truck partition is that it now allows the transportation of multi-temperature loads with the minimum of fuss.
So the same truck can carry frozen items at -25°C, chilled goods at +5°C and dry goods at ambient temperature. This has an obvious impact on delivery costs as now one truck can do the job of three.
“These transportation solutions are ideal for South African conditions”, says Barbara Westcott, MD of local agents Bamic Enterprises of Cape Town, “and in the long run can only lead to more cost savings in the delivery chain.”
