INFRASTRUCTURE: Conference to Drive Change in the Transport Infrastructure Sector
Recent Western Cape Business News
YEARS of delinquent under investment in transport infrastructure - not only our roads and rail but also ports - has led to an infrastructure deficit on the continent of R1,28trillion a year. This has made it expensive for companies to move goods within the region and harder for them to deliver raw materials from production areas to markets.
The 11th International Heavy Haul Association (IHHA) conference aims to address this and the slowdown in demand for freight bulk commodities such as coal and iron-ore. It will share global expertise on how to improve efficiencies, safety and viability of the industry and how to accelerate industrialization
.
Themed ‘Advancing Heavy Haul Technologies and Operations in a Changing World’, the 5-day conference will focus on industry research and innovations on how the sector can advance heavy haul technologies, rail expansion plans and global technological advancements.
The keynote speaker from the World Economic forum will cover the next industrial and technological revolutions for railways.
The event brings together over 1000 heavy haul rail executives, professionals and engineers, with representatives from over 25 countries which include the US, Australia, India, Russia, China, Brazil, Canada, Sweden, Norway and African countries.
