EXPO: D4FL Expo: NO More Petrol or Diesel Vehicles After 2025

Recent Western Cape Business News

NO MORE petrol cars or diesel vehicles will be made and sold after 2025. That is just eight years away.

This astonishing statement by a leading US transport economist gives an idea of the dramatic changes that lie in wait for us and why you and your family should visit the Design for Future Living exhibition at the Century City Conference Centre next month.

“The future will be a different place and we need to start thinking about it and the implications for every aspect of our lives,” said Ms Janine Myburgh, President of the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The show is the new incarnation of the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s original Design for Living Expo which ran for 30 years, drew huge crowds and pioneered the modern exhibition industry in Cape Town.

Ms Myburgh said the show would be a place where the public could meet businesses with an eye on the future and see their products and discuss their ideas. It should be both stimulating and informative.

“We need to prepare for some radical new thinking like that of Professor Tony Seba of Stanford University who says the future is electric for all vehicles because they never need servicing and operating costs are a 10th of those for the cars we know today.

She said a Design for Future Living expo was a perfect fit for the Design Capital of the World and a city recognised as the most innovative in Africa.

We’re hoping for some really good new technology but we don’t expect technology to dominate. The expo will also be about solutions for life, work and play.

Our plan is to make Design for Future Living a meeting place where innovators engage with their customers and where customers come to terms with the possibilities offered by the future.

The Expo takes place from 23-25 June 2017 from 10:00 to 18:00.

Entrance fee: Adults R40.00 / Pensioners R20.00 / Children under 12 are free. Tickets available online.
