ENGINEERING: Hoist With Novel Features
Recent Western Cape Business News
GMS, the manufacturer of goods hoists, is launching its latest addition to its materials handling equipment range. The company has been developing its range of hoists over the last two years to include the 1-ton G-Lift.
Based on its smaller predecessors, the G1000 has been designed for standardised, modular assembly, but with a larger capacity to carry a standard pallet and jack.
“The standardisation means that manufacture and installation are much faster than most other hoists on the market which are often customized to each site. We can deliver a standard G-Lift within four weeks and have it installed and tested by the end of the fifth week. The G-Lift is free-standing and does not require any building work or a pit. All we need to know is the height of the floor and we handle the rest,” says GMS Systems’ Roger de Smidt.
“We are also growing our distributor network, so that our long-standing tradition of quality service is maintained wherever you find a G-Lift,” he says.
The G-Lift has been developed and designed using CAD facilities, incorporating the latest technologies. They are manufactured and tested in the Cape Town facility. Quality components such as its German SEW drive ensure minimal down-time for maintenance and availability of spares world-wide. The standardisation of all components means that GMS can readily supply spares for any of its G-Lift installations.
De Smidt says GMS Systems has been the preferred GOH (garments on hangers) equipment supplier in Southern Africa for over 30 years and has provided many other materials handling solutions, from conveyors to mezzanine floors to picking systems. The manufacturing facilities and design office are based in Cape Town, and agencies for this rapidly growing company are located in the Middle East, Southern Africa and the UK.
“We value this reputation, and are committed to building on this through continued commitment to developing and incorporating the latest technology, quality systems and the highest standards of service. GMS Systems has been active in the Middle East for six years, having recently finished another large GOH project in Dubai with UAE agent, SPAN,” he says.
