SUREGAS is planning to open a branch in the Hamriyah (Sharjah) Free Zone, near Dubai.
This move coincides with the appointment of Dominic Steward as the branch manager for the UAE and the change in management of SureGas’ agent in Dubai-Cylingas LLC.
In addition, there will be a significant focus during 2009 on projects in other Gulf States such as Qatar and Abu Dhabi, says company spokesman Simon Steward.
Marketing assistance will be forthcoming from Cape Town to assist in developing these markets. Also, SureGas is active in India where several projects are being discussed, via its agent in the sub-continent, in Bangalore and Mumbai.
The reason for the optimism in the Gulf is based on the company’s good relationship with the management of Cylingas. Cylingas, established in 1974, is a leading manufacturer (both designer and fabricator) of LPG tanks and cylinders, as well as gas and oil pipelines, and is optimistic about the prospects for 2009.
Domestically, the company is growing fast and already has a significant volume of confirmed deals for 2009. Projects such as the University of the Western Cape and Forensic Laboratories in the Western Cape and Gauteng are typical examples of deals being worked on currently.
Other sufficient projects for SureGas in Cape Town is the International Hotelier The Taj Group. In addition leading life insurer, Old Mutual, has commissioned SureGas for its Cavendish Shopping Center and, in Gauteng, with another leading life insurer- the leases at Eastgate Shopping Centre include a clause which makes it mandatory to instal SureGas’ gas detection system.
And finally, the company has been awarded work at One and Only Hotel for gas detection and gas flares, and at a new hotel, 15 on Orange, for gas detection.
Steward says on the technical front, the company is both upgrading its current range of gas detection products and systems to ensure its competitiveness as well as increasing its after sales capacity. This model will apply wherever SureGas has a footprint - which will, of course, include the UAE, India and Jordan.
