VENTURES: GPI Spins Manufacturing Option
Recent Western Cape Business News
LOCAL empowerment company Grand Parade Investments (GPI) has underlined its IBM 000-015 dumps determination to take an operational (rather than purely investment) guise with an ambitious international manufacturing venture that ropes in Cape Town-based electronic expertise.
Late last year GPI – which has anchor gaming investments in casino and limited payout machine (LPM) interests - signed off a joint venture with Merkur Gaming GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the family owned Gauselmann Group. Gauselmann specialises in developing slot machines, LPMs and video lottery terminals.
GPI and Merkur have formed a new company called Grand Merkur to manufacture, assemble 000-015 exam and distribute slot machines, sports betting terminals and lottery terminals in SA.
While it is a niche operation, it’s worth noting that there are currently no gambling machine manufacturing facilities in South Africa – even though the vibrant industry has expanded into most provinces and contributes about R50bn to GDP annually.
Interestingly, the official press announcement notes that Grand Merkur will also “investigate opportunities for the possible operation of gaming facilities…as well as a research and development centre, where locally designed 000-016 exam software, games and alternate hardware will be developed”.
One of the most important legs of the transaction is that the new jv has signed up Retreat-based electronics contract manufacturer Tellumat (the old Plessey Group) to help with the project. Tellumat will offer its Atlantis and Retreat plants as manufacturing centres. Tellumat is a well established and highly respected company that has built its reputation as a reliable contract manufacturer by delivering manufacturing solutions that lower total costs and asset utilisation as well as increase customer’s market share and margins.
The company already services a wide range of clients in telecommunications, military, aerospace, metering, security, industrial and medical.
Apparently Tellumat was given the IBM 000-016 test thumbs-up as manufacturer to the joint venture after a site visit to its factory in Retreat by Gauselmann chief technical officer, Werner Schroer in June last year.
GPI’s fast growing LPM interests via Grandslots and Kingdom Slots should provide a significant demand underpin to the new venture. GPI currently operates over 1 800 LPMs across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
But the test will be whether Grand Mekur can offer attractively priced options to pull new clients from rival LPM operators – which include HCI’s sprawling Vukani LPM operation.
The joint venture has boasted that casino, LPM and sports betting operators will be able to access high quality German produced hardware that can now be manufactured locally at a lower cost. In addition gamblers would benefit from a varied selection of games and cabinets, and a game design team that would be able to introduce brand new games in a relatively short turnaround time.
GPI chairman Hassen Adams pointed out that venture could also export manufactured products to the rest of the continent, Europe and elsewhere. “We also expect it to create a significant number of new jobs and careers in the local manufacturing industry, which will naturally provide significant IPad Air Cases economic multipliers for the country”.
