SECURITY: Fang Acquires CCTV Specialist
Recent Western Cape Business News
CAPE TOWN-based perimeter security company, Fang, is one of a very few in SA to offer turnkey security infrastructure implementation with a difference - all the components in-house.
In addition to Fang’s extensive range of services and products, it has recently acquired Astrosec as a wholly owned subsidiary that specialises in covert CCTV to complete the services offered.
A partnership has also been established with a leading investigation company as to conduct investigations and enforcement of procedures in the work place on the group’s behalf.
This move is the latest in a number of initiatives that has earned Fang a reputation of being at the leading-edge of perimeter and electronic security in South Africa.
With a history stretching back 100 years, Fang has a number of firsts under its belt. Its parent company – Premier Wire Gate Fence and Seed Company (established 1905) – was the first company to manufacture fencing materials in South Africa and, in the 1980’s, Fang was one of the first fencing companies to specialise in electronic solutions to perimeter security. It is now a market leader in this field.
Fang managing director John Swart puts the company’s success down to its holistic approach. We provide a turn-key solution, ranging from perimeter fencing to CCTV, access control, networking and outstanding after sales service.
“Our security systems combine the best in security hardware with a modern computerised, Centralised Security Management System (Fang CSMS), easy-to-use on-site monitoring, as well as remote updating, servicing and fault finding and reporting capabilities”. The CSMS system links to field devices via telemetry, fibre or Wi-Fi .
“We are not in the business of just installing security hardware; we are in the business of crafting workable tools for security management,” Swart says.
“Controllers of security systems are bombarded with information, which is most often poorly organised and displayed. This is where the Fang CSMS comes into play, by organising alarm events (generated by various security devices) and to visually display the incident on an overview screen with CCTV footage as a added aid when available. This organised evidence can then be used pro active to make onsite decisions or reactive,” according to Swart.
Says Fredo Scribante, marketing director at Fang: “When we get involved in a project we prefer to be there when the first steps are taken. We do a lot of the design work ourselves bringing our background and expertise to bear on designing a solution that is tailor made for the application”.
Another key differentiator of the company is that it has maintenance procedures in place and offers a 24/7 response to any problems. “We run a full maintenance division with technically trained staff on hand at all times.”
Scribante says 90% of the company’s new business comes from referrals.
