ENGINEERING: Optare Comes From Impressive Stable

Recent Western Cape Business News

THE custom-built nine-metre Optare Solo feeder bus, which will now provide an important link in the MyCiTi livery, will augment the existing fleet and allow the City of Cape Town to add more routes to its unfolding service.

The buses will initially be used on interim feeder routes in Cape Town from September, with permanent feeder routes to be introduced from November this year.

These feeder routes will be used to alleviate suburban congestion by taking passengers from the suburbs to the MyCiTi trunk routes which connect to the city centre.

The Optare Solo has minimal front overhang and at only nine metre in length, provides for easy traveling in the suburbs.

They are low-floor vehicles with boarding bridges and no steps to ensure level boarding at pavement level.

Each Optare Solo will be able to seat 25 passengers and another 25 standing.

Optare’s UK website says it has taken all the best aspects of the award winning Solo - the true leader in the UK low-floor/easy access revolution - and made it even more appealing to operators and passengers alike, matching a modern, cutting- edge design with a whole series of impressive new benefits that improve the travelling experience.

It is a low-floor midibus with heavy duty proven mechanical components for long life and reliability. It has unrivalled accessibility and is competitively priced with low operating costs.
