CUMMINS South Africa says it is encouraged to be involved in the delivery of 190 Optare Solo buses to be built for City of Cape Town. All these buses have been fitted with after-treatment systems which have been designed to reduce emissions to almost zero.
“All the buses are fitted with Cummins ISB6.7 engines which deliver superior performance with the lowest cost of operation and maximum uptime to make it best-in-class. Ratings range from 200-325 hp and a maximum 750 lb-ft of peak torque.”
“All buses are fitted with the Cummins’ Electronic Control Module, which is the electronic heart of the engine, talks to INSITE a PC-based software application that provides quick and easy access to an engine’s electronic performance information. This enables faster service turnaround times. INSITE helps ensure accurate diagnoses and limits downtime while increasing productivity and profits. We have specifically calibrated the system according to Busmark’s specifications, thus providing them with the vital data required,” says Cummins Rouaan Steinmann, area manager, Western Cape.

Cummins Cape Town is the flag-ship branch fully geared up with state-of-the-art equipment. The workshop offers 11 truck bays, three with pits, an engine assembly bay, 6 overhead crainage systems a chassis dyno which enables onsite testing before the vehicle is released back onto the roads.
“On tap in the bay, we pipe supply filtration, lubrication and coolants. The stocked warehouse enables immediate access to parts, lubrication and filtration items. In addition and most importantly, we carry exchange engines which keep our customers on the road while the repair is being implemented. Our 24 hour support offers field service technicians as well as truck bay technicians. All our technicians are Cummins trained and qualified which ensures that only the best knowledge and skills are applied to our customers’ engines,” says Steinmann.
