The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) Microbiology and Water Chemistry testing laboratory in Cape Town was awarded ISO17025 accreditation recently by the accreditation body, South African National Accreditation System (SANAS), ensuring their stamp of approval is now backed up with accredited test reports.
The accreditation is the result of supermarket chains and food retailers putting increased pressure on suppliers to demonstrate that the products meet food and beverage safety standards.
The ISO17025 accreditation gives formal recognition that laboratories are competent to carry out specific tasks, and gives the food and beverage industry an independent qualification service, enabling companies to demonstrate that they comply with the necessary standards for goods.
“The accreditation will boost the laboratory’s ability to offer reliable, accurate, value added and affordable sampling and testing services to the broader industry across the Western Cape region,” Says Craig Wilson , SABS General Manager West Coast Region.
The SABS laboratory is well positioned to offer a strategic service to businesses across the Western Cape region to validate safety levels, product quality, business efficiency and service excellence.
