CAPE-based company, SCP, which trades in fruit juice concentrates and fruit pulps, purees and concentrates from South Africa, South America, Europe and China, as well as other branded food products such as olive oils, has shown growth of a whopping 360% since 2004.
Formerly known as Southern Canned Products, SCP was the South African food division of the Gerber Goldschmidt Group (GGG) for more than forty years when it changed to a registered private company in 2004, with GGG and the SCP management as its shareholders.
Says Deon Wahl, MD of SCP: “Since 2004, we’ve not only shown tremendous growth in turnover, but also established three new divisions as well as built a new production facility. We trade in fruit juice concentrates and fruit pulps, purees and concentrates – trading approximately 50 000 metric tons per annum.
SCP’s HACCP certified production facility develops and formulates fruit juice products for local and international customers. SCP’s products are also verified on a regular basis by independent laboratories to ensure 100% product integrity.
“In more recent years, we’ve also become importers and distributors of branded food products such as olive oils and olives (Olive Pride), canned tuna (Ocean Pride), and a range of food ingredients and additives for the food and beverage Industry. All products are sourced from world-class factories and are HACCP/ BRC/ ISO 22000, ISO 9000, Halaal and Kosher certified and are tested at third party laboratories to ensure 100% conformance.”
“Our Olive Pride is a range of olive oils made from only the highest quality olives, adhering to strict European standards. We’ve more than doubled our turnover on this brand in the last year. It proves our point that there was a huge gap in the market for affordable olive and seed oils and products of an excellent quality.”
SCP also offers solutions in terms of food products to their clients, through development, manufacturing, trading, sales and marketing, as well as warehousing.
The company, which started with 13 employees, now boasts a staff complement of 52. “We really look after our staff and believe in giving our star performers excellent incentives. Basically, we believe in hard work, and to also share the spoils. We plan to launch new brands and attain new acquisitions in the next five years,” Wahl says.
