THE Open Learning Group (OLG) has acquired the provisional accreditation of its Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC), a sub-committee of the Council on Higher Education. With this development, OLG is moving towards the fulfilment of its Vision 2020 strategy.
“The next step is the application for accreditation of the Bachelors of Business Administration in Logistics and Supply Chain Management”, says OLG academic head, Deon van der Merwe. “Private Higher Education is wrongfully viewed as too exclusive or more costly than other avenues of study, while it actually poses a very attractive alternative to the working adult.”
OLG is well on its way to fulfilling its Vision 2020 strategy through the identifying of scarce skills industries and developing solutions for these industries. “As part of this Vision 2020 strategy, a career path and progress path will be created from the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 1 to doctorate level. It is our aim to have fulfilled this strategy by the year 2020. The existing OLG Certificate in logistics management now offers students articulation to the diploma in logistics and supply chain management, which is good news to students aiming to enter the industry or to enhance their skills. Students can finish the diploma programme in three to four years and will receive an NQF Level 6 qualification. An added benefit to completing the Certificate in Logistics Management is the opportunity to transfer 50% of the credits to the diploma qualification,” van der Merwe says.
This development places OLG in a position to offer students the option to gain entry at various points on the NQF learning path.
This also provides an attractive option to clients as they can invest in an employee’s career path through their workplace skills plans, while simultaneously benefiting from such development projects.
