Recent Western Cape Business News
The City of Cape Town will host a World Design Capital 2014 Stakeholder Forum on 28 February 2012 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, coinciding with this year’s Design Indaba. Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Patricia de Lille will open the function with an address to the participants of the forum.
Cape Town will be hosting the World Design Capital 2014, edging out other short-listed cities Dublin and Bilbao. Cape Town is the first city from the developing world to be designated World Design Capital, and the theme for Cape Town's bid, “Live Design: Transform Lives”, emphasises the role that design can play in overcoming developmental challenges.
“During our forum at the CTICC, we want to start a discussion about shaping the vision for WDC2014, and provide clarity on the process that is being followed,” said Alderman De Lille.
The forum will provide an overview of what World Design Capital is all about. As part of this, participants will take a look at what Helsinki is doing as World Design Capital 2012.
It will also highlight the role that design can play in development and in overcoming urban challenges, and practical examples of how design has improved lives in Cape Town will be showcased.
"We want to stimulate conversation on and ideas for WDC2014 and its legacy. Clarity will also be provided on the process and the timeliness involved with hosting WDC2014,” said Alderman De Lille.
