MATERIALS HANDLING: Case Track Loaders Go Deep
Recent Western Cape Business News
CSE Equipment recently extended its range of materials handling equipment to include the new TR series compact tracked loaders ( Skidsteers ).
There are three units in the CTL series – the TR270, TR320 and TV380 and they all feature enhanced bucket breakout force (up to 38.2 kN) and improved hinge pin height.
These machines have greater horsepower for improved productivity, which means tasks are completed in shorter time periods.
Says Des Buckingham, CSE branch manager in Cape Town; “The dozer style under carriage is designed to operate efficiently and safely on steep slopes. The under carriage, with a rigid track frame, has fewer moving parts, so it’s more durable and easier to maintain than conventional track systems”.
“This new technology, based on rollers and idlers, reduces maintenance costs and extends service life of the under carriage. The design of the new, narrow chassis width enables easy loading”, Buckingham says.
No sooner had the TR-series made their appearance when Bidfreight Port Operations in Table Bay Harbour bought four TR320 units from CSE, Cape Town.
Bidfreight’s branch manager in Cape Town, Max Slabbert says they were bought outright to replace its previous system of hiring in equipment as it was needed. As a leading stevedoring operator in the harbour, Bidfreight is tasked to efficiently unload the hulls of visiting bulk carrying vessels.
“We handle almost any bulk cargo you can think of, but especially products such as maize, soya beans and meal. These Skidsteers operate in the hull of the ship effectively moving the produce to the centre, which enables 12 cubic metres to be grabbed in one shot, we are able to discharge 100 tons per hour”, Slabbert says.
Of the four units bought, three are used at a time in the hull of a ship. The fourth is used as a back-up, should the need arise, according to Slabbert.
The overall operating height of the TR320 is 3.21 m at hinge pin.
Freight carriers need to spend as little time as possible in ports. It seems that the TR series provides the speedy and efficient service that Bidfreight requires.
