TEXTILES: Polybond Starts Fibre Manufacturing In Cape Town

Recent Western Cape Business News

ONE of the country’s leading manufacturers of non-woven synthetic fibre, which operates under the banner of Polybond, last month opened a new manufacturing facility in Epping, Cape Town.

Until recently, Polybond had a manufacturing facility in Pretoria, with distribution branches in Durban and Cape Town. Now Cape Town too has been provided with a high speed non-woven line. “We have decided to do so to better service our growing client base locally,” says Polybond director Lefentse Nokaneng.

Polybond’s synthetic fibres are sold to the furniture and bedding sectors as well as for insulation and filtration applications, according to Nokaneng.

In line with modern European and American non-woven synthetic fibre producers for the furniture (upholstery) and bedding markets, Polybond supplies thermobonded, needled and bonded fibres or products using a combination of these processes.

As an example of Polybond’s staying power one has to look at its association with its major customers in South Africa. It has been over two decades that Polybond, a 100% BEE company, has been supplying the bedding, automotive, filtration, insulation and upholstery markets. The company’s relationship with key clients has revolutionised the bedding industry with the introduction of Polymatts - high performance foam replacement pads - which are used to reduce the amount of foam in beds, making them more environmentally friendly and safer. To this, all its products are environmentally friendly and non-allergenic.

Being an ISO accredited company Polybond ensures that it is able to deliver high quality products across all the market segments it supplies. Its distribution centres in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town allow Polybond to deliver timeously to clients.

A key driver of Polybond’s growth has been the investment in technology and people. The company looks forward to ongoing growth and development within South Africa and SADC region,” Nokaneng says.
