CIVILS: New Cat Rental Store Rollouts
Recent Western Cape Business News
CAT Rental Store currently carries around 250 product items, a dedicated and modern machine fleet that is well equipped to serve today’s construction, mining and plant hire segments.
Prior to July 2011, this line-up included mobile compressors. “However, since these were non-core Cat products, we have decided to discontinue our compressor offering and focus purely on Caterpillar earthmoving equipment,” explains Barloworld Equipment Cat Rental Store sales and marketing manager, Willy Buist. (Barloworld Equipment is Caterpillar’s southern African dealer.)
Cat equipment options are extensive, extending from skid steers to asphalt and general compaction, hydraulic excavators, articulated trucks, plus dozers ranging from the D6R to the D10T.
On the mining side, new additions this year include 90 tonne payload Cat 777 off-highway trucks, as well as the Cat 390D L excavator model, which was launched globally in 2011. (The latter is a loading match for the Cat 777.) Also in the fleet for heavy civils and quarrying applications is the new generation 75 tonne Cat 374D L excavator.
Buist points out these and other ongoing investments serve as examples of how the Cat Rental Store provides off-balance sheet solutions for customers, typically for medium to longer term contracts.
Rental agreements start from round three months and can extend anywhere up to two years.
“Historically, regions like North America and Europe have always tended to favour machine rental options, and we are now increasingly seeing this trend emerging in South Africa,” he says.
All Cat Rental Store models are low hour machines and once they reach a predetermined limit are sold back to the market as Cat Certified Used (CCU) units.
