MANAGEMENT: Clean Slate For WCape Tourism
Recent Western Cape Business News
Peter Bacon, chairperson of the Board of Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU), says the Western Cape Tourism Marketing Authority received a clean statement from the Auditor- General in his 2011 report card.
“We must be held accountable for the money entrusted to us to market and promote Cape Town and the Western Cape as a tourist destination and ensure that we get the best return on investment. We take the issue of compliance seriously and have put in place structures and processes which support our core focus as well as ensuring a high standard of corporate governance and compliance with the Public Finance Management Act,” comments Bacon
“The organisation has faced many organisational challenges over the past few years, not least the role of the different tiers of government in the marketing of the destination. Despite the on-going uncertainty this debate has created for the organisation the Board remains appreciative of the good work done by Calvyn Gilfellan and the team at CTRU and the organisation's tangible contribution to the growth of the Province's tourism economy," concludes Bacon.
“We are extremely proud of this unqualified audit. It is the sixth consecutive year that CTRU has demonstrated excellent management of public money. This achievement comes hot on the heels of another successful external audit of the Cape Town Convention Bureau by Lloyd’s Registered Quality Assurance. This audit ensures that the Bureau remains a certified member of the BestCities Global Alliance,” adds Calvyn Gilfellan, CEO of CTRU.
