BUILDING: Bobcrete Scoops Excellence Awards
Recent Western Cape Business News
BOBCRETE, the Bellville-based precast concrete manufacturer has swept the field in the biennial South African Concrete Manufacturers Association awards for excellence in Hollowcore. Three regional awards were won in November last year and two of these projects namely the Steenberg Social Housing project and the Novo Packhouse in Paarl, went on to receive national awards being judged best in the country.
Bobcrete was the only Western Cape Hollowcore manufacturer to be nominated for any awards.
The Steenberg Housing project, in particular, was judged not possible in Hollowcore by Bobcrete’s competitors yet after developing several innovations in Hollowcore and stair technology, Bobcrete were able to successfully undertake and complete the work.
Bobcrete also received an international award in Oslo, Norway, in May this year, being judged as the best Hollowcore company worldwide in innovation in Hollowcore for the past 12 months. Judging for the award was done by the International Prestressed Hollowcore Association.
Innovation at Bobcrete has been an ongoing process for the last ten years and was first recognised by the SABS in awarding a design institute award for the development of Bobcrete’s special Hollow-core panel, Bobflor-plus.
The company says conditions remain tough in the building industry with demand depressed to levels not seen in the last ten years. It is only through continual innovation and the introduction of new products which allows Bobcrete the edge over their competitors.
