ELECTRICAL: Eurolux In Project Lighting Market

Recent Western Cape Business News

EUROLUX is making its entry into the local project lighting sector with the offering of its first range of professional project lighting to retailers and wholesalers. Included in the range are high bays, pendants and downlights, ideal for commercial, retail and manufacturing environments, whilst certain items would also be suitable for use in high-end residential applications. Most of the lights come fitted with remote electronic control gear for greater energy efficiency, with two ranges that include a three hour emergency back-up.

Calling the move a natural progression, Shaun Bouchier, Cape Town director at Eurolux, says they have been planning their entry into the project lighting space for a while now, but their focus was on finding the right products for the South African market. “We’ve long since recognised the need to enter the project lighting sector, given the fact that it is such a large part of the market and that most of our customers stock these product lines. However, we wanted to ensure that when we do enter this space, we offer products of high quality, durability and functionality.”

According to Bouchier a lot of thought has been given to reflector shape and finish, as these are some of the most crucial features in efficient project lighting. Hence the Eurolux range features reflectors made from highly reflective materials that ensures consistent reflector performance.

The emergency backup battery offered on two of the ranges, are particularly useful in factories, retail stores and offices. “South Africa has its fair share of electricity outages and we also have to contend with load shedding, that is why these products that still offer you 50% of its light output for a three hour period, are proving so popular,” elaborates Bouchier.

The selection of lenses used in the Eurolux recessed downlights is based on the needs of building occupants, as well as on their overall look and design. The lenses on offer include a cross reflector to prevent glare, a decorative lens that leaves a space between the fitting and lens, as well as a lens that fits snugly onto the fitting, thus preventing any spillage in the case of a lamp breaking etc. The downlights are available in two sizes, viz. 203mm and 152mm.

Some of the downlights that are fitted with remote control gear are especially beneficial, as it decreases the weight of the actual fixture, preventing the fixture from sagging,” explains Bouchier.

High-intensity discharge lighting, as found in the Eurolux high bay pendants, can provide more light over a greater distance, ideal for warehouses with very high roof structures and areas where large spaces have to be lit.”

Bouchier is quick to add that this is but the beginning of their project lighting offerings: “We hope to continue adding new ranges to our current selection in the near future, so watch this space.”
