DEVELOPMENT: Cape Post Offices Scoop National Award

Post Offices in the Western Cape kicked dust in the eyes of their counterparts in other regions by being awarded best region in South Africa by the South African Post Office for the financial year 2010/2011. The two winning offices in the Western Cape are George East (large office) and Prince Albert (small office). Klein Brakrivier Post Office scooped an award for the best improved office in the region. They improved from 52.65% to 93.45% - an improvement of 40.79%! A further 11 branches were also awarded with operational excellence awards. Seventy-eight employees received awards for excellent customer service!
The South African Post Office has 195 branches in the Western Cape with 826 employees. Nationally, we have 1 545 branches with 5877 employees.
“We’ve implemented this reward system for the enhancement of operational performance and the rendering of excellent customer service,” says Ndala Mnisi, group executive: Consumer Services. “We reward branches twice a year and this event is the final for the financial year 2010/2011 where we announced the overall winners. He continued by explaining that the system was implemented to inspire, motivate and encourage teamwork as well as to encourage competition between branches. “We are proud of the performance of Western Cape and trust they will continue with the rendering of excellent service!”
Winners for the operational excellence awards are audited every six months and the auditors use a nationally standardised operational checklist. A minimum score of 90 per cent is required to qualify for any award.
