VENTURES: Crane Takes Off
Recent Western Cape Business News
CRANE Truck Hire (Cape Town), situated in Brackenfell, has been grown from a one truck, owner driver business started in 1991 to a full crane truck operation employing 12 people, managed by Neil and Shaun Williams.
Several trucks now work across the Cape peninsula, ranging from 8 ton to 30 ton with cranes and lifting capacities between 4 and 7 ton. “Our latest is a 440 HP truck tractor and a 300 HP truck tractor that work with our semi trailers that consist of a 13m step deck lowbed and 8m semi trailers,” says director Neil Williams.
“During 2009 and the build-up to the recession, difficult times were experienced. Bigger crane rental companies keenly started looking for small jobs. Price cuts in the trade stayed for the period 2009 until the first quarter of 2011.”
“We now run a weekly schedule trip from Cape Town to Gauteng and back to Cape Town for part loads and full loads with a tri axle semi trailer and a stepdeck lowbed. Customers prefer our long distance service when it comes to non palletized cargo as offloading is done by our certified drivers and no liaison is required between transporter and crane contractors.”
“As business starts up for 2011, we are looking forward to being the transporter of choice to many new clients as we are expanding our workforce to increase our response-time for late bookings. Service will stay our driving force.”
