A total of 1 974 sq m of concrete have been thrown to produce the new floor area allowing for improved movement of equipment and subsequently a better service for customers.
The undercover work area has been increased by 690 sq m with ‘green elements’ being incorporated in the expansions. The new roofed area will improve efficiencies, especially in the rainy season as previously work was curtailed in inclement weather.
“We have been conscious of using the opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint with large sections of the roof being fitted with clear translucent sheeting to assist in reducing electricity consumption. At the same time clear sheeting was also retrofitted to sections of the existing factory to maximize the use of natural lighting.”
“Water storage tanks with a capacity of 20 000 litres were also installed as part of a water harvesting project for washing of vehicles. This will reduce demand for municipal water which has been insufficient to cope with demand and in short supply from time to time.”
