MANUFACTURING: Aluminium Hots Up
Recent Western Cape Business News
A R3 million aluminium window production facility established in Kuils River in the Western Cape just a year ago has been so successful that its parent company, Duro Pressings, has decided to expand its manufacturing capacity says Phillip Tobiansky, an executive director of the Gauteng-based group.
Duro Pressings is Southern Africa’s largest producer and distributor of steel and aluminium windows, doors and allied products used in the home improvement and construction sector.
The Kuils River factory operates under the umbrella of Duro’s aluminium product division, Richards and Barlow (R&B) – and it dovetails on the same site with the Western Cape distribution nerve centre of R&B.
Hand-in-hand with the expansion of aluminium window production capacity will be a reinforcement of the infrastructure that supports the distribution in the Cape Peninsula and Overberg of the group’s branded range of Como aluminium windows and doors, and Bellagio shower doors and other aluminium bathroom accessories.
“The success of the Kuils River operation, and the decision to expand it, vindicates our investment confidence in the Western Cape. It also reflects the steady inroads that aluminium continues to make as a building material of choice in the region’s housing market – from the affordable sector to top-end homes,” says Tobiansky.
