MANUFACTURING: Johnson & Johnson In Cape To Stay
Recent Western Cape Business News
Johnson & Johnson has announced the decision to retain its manufacturing facility in Cape Town. This followed an earlier decision by the company to cease production by end of 2010.
Filip De Keersmaecker, Regional Vice President, Supply Chain, explained that the company’s Consumer Supply Chain Group had re-analysed the earlier decision and, based on a comprehensive review, made the recommendation for the facility to be retained within the company’s internal manufacturing network. Managing Director for the South African company, Will Finn, was delighted with the outcome - “This is a positive decision and speaks to the capabilities within our Cape Town site and our organisation’s ability to deliver quality products for consumers throughout sub-sahara Africa”, he said.
The site manufactures a range of over-the-counter products, and boasts an impeccable track record of compliance, with a strong focus on quality control and safe manufacturing practices. Approximately 200 people are currently employed at the facility.
Johnson & Johnson (Pty) Ltd has two manufacturing operations in South Africa - one plant based in East London and one in Cape Town. The company also has regional sales offices in Durban and Johannesburg.
