INFOTECH: CTICC In The Global Spotlight
Recent Western Cape Business News
The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) has announced that it has been selected as one of the three finalists for the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) Operations Award. The award aims to reward and recognise international best practice operation initiatives in the exhibition industry and to give exhibition professionals the opportunity to exchange interesting and innovative ideas, concepts, techniques and knowledge related to operations issues.
According to Chief Operating Officer, Joey Pather the centre clinched one of the top spots as a result of the centre’s smart use of Information Technology with regard to exhibitions. The CTICC in conjunction with its IT service provider Prosperis Technology identified a need for more streamlined communication within the centre. While the CTICC has superb WIFI coverage, delegates to the centre were mainly utilising their “smart phones” like Blackberry, iPhone and iPads to access the internet. “CTICC decided to combine existing hotspot and intranet technologies to create a platform, where the centre could communicate with all clients” says Pather.
“Clients can now access a multitude of services related to the breakdown and build-up of exhibitions, conferences and events such as floor plans, real time freight information, online exhibition services and instant messaging with CTICC staff” says Pather. This new service offering not only streamlines the exhibition process, but also meets the centre’s sustainable objectives as it reduces the use of paper and manual systems processes.
Pather concluded by saying that the centre will continue to implement new cutting edge innovations in order to achieve its vision of being one of the world’s leading long haul international convention centres by 2020. The winner of this award will be announced at the UFI Operations Focus Meeting in Kiev next month.
