Recent Western Cape Business News

The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) underwent a major R 8 million refurbishment in order to ensure that the CTICC continues to deliver world class standards of service excellence.

According to Joey Pather, Chief Operating Officer the refurbishments were necessary in order to ensure that the centre remained on par with rising international standards and to deliver the five-star experience expected in convention circles.

As a convention centre whose business principles are built around the ethos of sustainability, environmental considerations played a pivotal factor in the refurbishment process. “The centre has spent over R5 million in revamping all bathrooms to ensure that the latest energy and water conservation methods were implemented” says Pather, The new bathrooms boast motion sensor taps and flushing systems, energy efficient, LED signage and low voltage lights were also installed to conserve energy.

Other major refurbishments include the R 1.5 million installation of automated blackout blinds in all major venues, the installation of digital signage in the parking garage and the  replacement of over 1800 square metres of ballroom carpet. “The blackout blinds which have been installed in all meeting rooms and the ballroom utilise energy efficient technology to control lighting in the room” added Pather.

In order to position itself as the leading long haul international convention centre by 2020, it is essential that the centre continually implements cutting edge innovative technologies into its operations” added Pather. The refurbishments were necessary not only to ensure that clients and visitors to the centre enjoy a world class experience, but to maximise the centre’s full potential. Further refurbishments on the cards include replacing the external neon signage with LED illuminated signage and replacing the directional and information signage in the centre’s parking garages.
