Exhibition industry experts from around the world has converged in Cape Town for the Expo Summit Africa 2011, which is being held at the centre from 27 to 28 January 2011.
According to Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Chief Executive Officer, Rashid Toefy this event will play an instrumental role in raising the profile of the local exhibition industry. Expo Summit Africa is a vital platform for the local exhibition industry to showcase its skills and expertise to the world and to position Cape Town as a leading international trade fair and exhibition destination. “This is the first time that this event is being held in Africa and it is indeed an honour for Cape Town and CTICC to be chosen as the host destination and venue” says Toefy.
As a result of this event coming to Cape Town, the Exhibition & Event Association of Southern Africa (EXSA) has linked their annual conference to this event in order to further raise awareness of the local exhibition industry. According to EXSA chairperson Natalie Naude, the partnership is designed to “maximise participation and give delegates the opportunity to meet their global counterparts to develop more business”.
Some industry experts lined up to speak at this event include; Paul Woodward, MD of UFI; The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, Jochen Witt, President & CEO of JWC, Germany, Sandy Angus, exhibition organiser and chairperson of Andry Montgomery; Steve Monnington, owner of Mayfield Media; and Debbie Stanford-Kristiansen, CEO of expo@bahrain.
Topics on the agenda include an overview of the African exhibition sector, with special emphasis on growth avenues in the long term, current trends in the international exhibition industry and the contribution of exhibitions to the economy.
International trade shows play a vital role in developing the economy and an event of this nature will play a pivotal role in developing the local trade fair and exhibition industry. “This event with its exciting array of both local and international speakers is set to raise the bar in terms of service delivery as the content of the conference will help local organizers to enhance their service offerings and showcase international standards of best practice in the exhibition industry” Toefy concluded.
