ENGINEERING: Delta Steam Traps Save Boiler Fuel

Recent Western Cape Business News

DELTA Industries, based in Cape Town and founded in 2008, has already sold and installed more than 2 000 venturi orifice steam traps.  “Through permanently eliminating failed steam traps, thereby reducing boiler fuel usage and directly reducing CO2 emissions many millions of rands have already been saved,” says Jacques Verwey, founder of the company.
“Losses from steam systems make up approximately 35% of all identified potential energy savings. More energy is lost through steam wastage than through any other medium in industry. With the Delta venturi orifice steam trap system having no moving parts, virtually zero maintenance required, full stainless steel construction and a 10 year product guarantee the system reduces factory energy bills by between 15 and 30% with immediate effect,” Verwey claims.
Instead of utilising a valve mechanism to close off steam for maximum energy and water conservation, the Delta steam trap uses the venturi orifice design to effectively drain condensate from the steam system.
As the Delta steam trap has no moving parts to wedge open or fail, it provides high reliability, requiring only minimal maintenance, almost no spares, testing or monitoring equipment, he claims.
Available in a wide range of sizes for a full cross section of applications, the hardwearing Delta steam traps are manufactured from corrosion resistant stainless steel and are guaranteed for 10 years, obviating the need for repair or replacement. “The Delta steam traps provide a fast payback - on some processes within a matter of days - from reduced energy costs and increased equipment reliability due to a reduction in damaging steam within the condensate system. In addition, it improves product processing by enhancing the quality of steam which in turn reduces equipment repairs, downtime and replacement costs.”
“Designed and manufactured in South Africa, the Delta venturi orifice steam trap system is at the forefront of steam trapping technology. With business agreements being entered into with European, North American and Asian countries we will have a global footprint in the very near future,” Verwey confidently predicts.
