Long awaited Palmyra Junction, a new neighbourhood shopping centre in Claremont anchored by the largest convenience Woolworths Food store in the Western Cape, opened this week.
Situated on bustling Palmyra Road, Palmyra Junction boasts a 1200 square metre Woolworths foodstore – their greenest to date – as well as 18 other retail tenants chosen to cater for almost every need.
These include eateries from a Thai Café to a Knead Bakery and a Vida e café.
Most tenants are trading from 9am to 6pm Mondays to Saturdays and until 1pm on Sundays and public holidays.
Woolworths is trading longer hours from 8.30am until 8pm while Vida e and Knead Bakery are both open from 7am. The Thai Café ,which caters for lunch and dinner trade, opens at 11am until late.
Rabie development manager Colin Anderson says it took eight years to assemble the site and get the necessary development rights in place.
“The Claremont area is under shopped in terms of convenience shopping as there simply have not been suitable, large enough sites available for development. The existing shopping facilities in the area have thus been limited to strip shops or small redevelopments which all have parking limitations so Palmyra Junction really has a competitive advantage in that it is able to provide both convenience and destinational shopping.”
Anderson says the Woolworths Foodstore had been designed to be the “greenest” of all Woolworths Foodstores countrywide. Green building measures under taken included the recycling of energy for the underfloor heating, a grey water system, natural light and ventilation.
With a gross lettable area of 2200 square metres, Palmyra Junction was developed at a cost of R50m by the Rabie Property Group on behalf of Insight and in response to strong market demand.
