RETAILING: Cape Retailers Reach For The Stars

Recent Western Cape Business News

Raith Gourmet at Gardens Centre won the title of the Western Cape’s Retailer of the Year at the region’s Special Star Awards, an initiative by the South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC).

These awards recognise those retailers and service providers who have provided exceptional levels of service, thereby contributing positively towards South Africa’s shopping centre industry. The SACSC Footprint Marketing Awards were also presented to Western Cape regional winners at the event which was held at Greenpoint.

The winners of these regional awards will go on as finalists to the Spectrum Awards 2010, recognising the National Retailer of the Year and National Service Provider of the Year, to be held at Summerplace in November this year.

The SACSC Spectrum Awards honours achievements in innovation, creativity, vision and excellence across all disciplines and all sectors within the South African retail industry. In essence, this awards ceremony honours the crème-de-la-crème of South Africa’s shopping centres and their retailers.

The quality of the Western Cape region’s entries was of an extremely competitive level and it is very exciting to see such a high level of retail innovation and excellence,” notes Amanda Stops, General Manager of the SACSC.

Shining in the Supermarket category were nominees Pick n Pay at Stellenbosch Square, Shoprite at Gugulethu Square, Pick n Pay at Somerset Mall and Fruit & Veg City at Willowbridge Lifestyle Centre. However, the brightest star in the Supermarket constellation was Super Spar at Zevenwacht Mall.

Putting flair into food-on-the-go, Kauai at Bayside Mall, Wimpy at Paarl Mall and Wimpy at Tyger Valley Shopping Centre were all nominees, with KFC at Gugulethu Square being awarded first place in the Fast Foods category.

The hotly contested Restaurant and Coffee Shop category featured Vide E Café at Bayside Mall, Doppio Zero at Cavendish Connect and Joe Fish at Howard Centre as category nominees. In fact the quality of entries in this category was so competitive that the judges announced joint winners Myatt Coffee Shop at Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre and Raith Gourmet at Gardens Centre which went on to take the title of overall best retailer in the Western Cape.
