VENTURES: New Force In Bolts And Nuts Sector

Recent Western Cape Business News

THERE is a new player in the bolts and nuts business in the Western Cape and it arrived with a bang last month to compete in this very competitive market.

Reference to ‘bang’ follows from the size of the operation (it’s quite big, not only in terms of the range of the products, but also its stockholding) as well as the driving force behind it – Eric Hasselbach, Rainer Lutz and Bernd Rabus, possibly the most experienced people in the local bolts and nuts business.

The company goes by the name of Fastenright (Pty) Ltd. and if MD Rainer Lutz has his way it will soon be one of the biggest players in its field.

Bolts and nuts are exactly that to the industry, the bread and butter so to speak. They are used almost everywhere and at any time. But there are many suppliers, big and small, so it’s a very competitive marketplace,” Lutz says.

Having moved into 1 000 sq m premises in Epping, one of the main industrial hubs of Cape Town, Fastenright will be the only specialist bolt and nut suppliers in the Western Cape specialising in stainless steel, Lutz says.

The range is wide - from Hex bolts to all kinds of nuts.

Also included are all sorts of washers, rivets, pins, S/Tapp screws, Mach.screws and Cap-screws to name a few.

Importantly, they are all available in stainless steel Grades 304 and 316. Specials can be made on request.

Lutz says Fastenright not only knows the suppliers very well (the majority of them overseas), but they also understand the requirements of local users intimately. Together with keen pricing and superior service, this will provide the new company with an important competitive edge, he believes.

The majority of clients will be on account but, importantly, all products will be held ex-stock. “So whenever a client requires something urgently and is in a hurry for a particular product - which is almost always the case - we’ll be able to assist,” he says.

The company has not only started off with a large stockholding, but two sales reps, an effective telesales operation and counter sales make for a strong marketing effort.

Interestingly, drill bits, taps and dies will also be on offer to provide for cutting tool requirements.

Something that is being considered for the future is the expansion of the existing product range as well as the introduction of other products, depending on the demand of customers, Lutz explains.
