ENGINEERING: PPP Achieves Good Sales Success

PENINSULA Power Product’s industrial side has grown in recent years with the increased demand for stand-by generators.

Gensets ranging from 15kva to 1 000kva are built on the premises in Cape Town.

It occupies its own premises in central Paarden Eiland Cape Town, consisting of two spacious workshops with dynamometer machines, a showroom area, spares department, stores and offices totalling 1 700sq m, with a secure yard space in between the two buildings.

A fleet of eleven service vehicles is available for customer call-outs.

A second branch was established in 2004 in North End, Port Elizabeth to service the chokka industry in the Eastern Cape.

The multi-franchise marine and industrial engine and gearbox supplier recently revealed that it has concluded a number of sales from its Cape Town and Port Elizabeth branches into the fishing as well as the tourist sectors along the coastline from Saldanha to Richards Bay.

PPP has sold a MTU 16V2000 engine and a Twin Disc MG5321DC gearbox to Compass Fishing Enterprises in Saldanha Bay for the re-powering of F.V.Boetie Aki,a pelagic trawler operating on the West Coast.

The engine develops 1100 hp @ 1800rpm.

Talhado Fishing Enterprises in Port Elizabeth recently installed two John Deere 6125A main engines and two John Deere 6068TFM auxiliary power gensets into their new catamaran F.V. Silver Eagle. The main engines are rated at 455hp @2000rpm and the generators 118kva @1500rpm.

The new calamari catcher has a top speed of 12.5 knots.

Two Dong-I DMT 150 gearboxes were also supplied.

Other recent sales to the Eastern Cape fishing fleet include hake longliner Pakamani which re-powered with a 450hp @ 1500rpm Series 60 Detroit engine and Twin Disc MG 516 gearbox.

KZN Tuna (Pty) Ltd will soon be taking delivery of a full mechanical, 480hp @ 1800rpm Doosan V158TIM engine and Dong-I DMT260HL gearbox with a gear ratio 4.5:1 to be installed into the F.V. ‘Ryoei’ a 27 meter tuna and swordfish longliner. The vessel operates out of Richards Bay.

Durban based T&T Marine have chosen a John Deere 6068T industrial unit for installation into a barge being used for dredging work in St Francis.

PPP is supplying two John Deere 6125 engines and Twin Disc MG 5114SC gearboxes to Mmamdanwane (Pty) Ltd a new charter company which will soon be operating from the V&A Waterfront.

The ferry is currently being re-built and once refitted will carry a maximum of 250 passengers.

Another client in the Waterfront is Nonkulukeko Charters which has powered its retro-styled M.V. ‘Jolly Roger’ with a pair of John Deere 6068TFM engines and Twin Disc mg5050 gearboxes.

This 14m ‘pirate boat’ is based on a Lavranos mono-hull design and built by C-Craft in Hout Bay.

PPP’s steady sales of Northern Lights generator sets to the luxury yacht market continues with recent sales to Stealth Yachts of a M773LW3 and to Knysna Yacht Company, which purchased a M673LW for power requirements onboard S.V. ‘Mika’.
