BUILDING: Global Roofing Covers The Cape
Recent Western Cape Business News
ONE of South Africa’s largest metal roofing manufacturers – Global Roofing Solutions – a KMG Group subsidiary – supplied world class roofing products to large construction projects in Cape Town and surrounds.
The largest project in the Western Cape – the Integrated Terminal and multi-storey parkade at Cape Town International Airport saw GRS supply 29 000 sq m Klip-lok 406 concealed fix roofing sheets for the main terminal and another 20 000 sq m roof sheeting for the parkade.
Specifying the product, architects Blueprint and Groenewald Prellar said “the GRS Klip-lok 406 product allowed the required one degree pitch and due to the larger number of clips per square metre the product ensures better performance in high wind conditions.”
“The pre-painted Globalcoat system used on the roof sheets is made from non toxic paint, so rainwater can run freely without poisoning the surrounds.”
“Global Roofing furthermore did onsite roll forming, producing continuous roof sheets that eliminates the need for end laps - a significant feat due to the lack of space that a working airport presents”, says main roofing contractor Scheltema’s Dave Payne.
Another project that saw GRS go the extra mile was the recently completed Broadway Boulevard Mall in Somerset West.
“GRS was able to supply the pre-painted Globalcoat roof sheeting and do on-site roll forming which made the project cost effective and reduced the construction time,” says Chris Petrie from Skye Roofing, the main roofing contractor.
Other significant projects successfully using GRS products and expertise include the Cape Gate Medi Clinic, the Integrated Waste Management Facility in Kraaifontein, 15 On Orange Hotel and Dreamworld Studio’s in Stellenbosch.
“We are making inroads in the Western Cape and are geared to continue being the supplier of choice to architects and specifiers alike” says GRS managing director, Gavin Jacobsen.
