Table Mountain Aerial Cableway has been awarded the highest level of responsible tourism status by a local environmental rating programme, making it the first and only tourism attraction in the country to achieve this.
The Heritage Environmental Rating programme recognizes companies for their environmentally friendly and responsible operating standards based on their effective environmental management systems and the impact these companies have on their environment.
Table Mountain Cableway utilises many environmentally friendly practices including the introduction of innovative water-saving measures that resulted in a massive reduction in water usage at the top station. From using 27 000 litres per week, the popular attraction now uses just 5 000 litres.
“We understand that operating a business in a national park means that we have to raise the bench mark in environmental standards. We are so proud that our use of innovative methods ensures that we run an environmentally responsible site and that this has been recognised by such a respected organisation,” said Sabine Lehmann, CEO of Table Mountain Cableway.
