MANAGEMENT: USB in Top Global Business School Lists

The University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) has received an international accolade from Eduniversal, which named the USB one of the top three business schools in Africa and one of the 27 Best Business Schools in the World. The Eduniversal Official Selection was made from 1 000 business schools worldwide.
The Eduniversal trophy was handed to Prof Eon Smit, director of the USB, last week at a gala dinner held at the Le Palais Brongniart in Paris. This event formed part of the Eduniversal World Convention where 250 academics and representatives from the top business schools and faculties of management in the world were gathered.
Prof Smit, the African representative on the Scientific Committee of Eduniversal, addressed the representatives of sixty countries present on the challenges facing business education in Africa.
While emphasising the diversity among African countries, he indicated that “in terms of both the quality and quantity of institutions of business education, with very few exceptions, Africa lags behind best practice in the world, while the need for good management, leadership and governance is increasing steadily in all sectors of the economy.”
He stressed the conditions required to alleviate the problem, indicating that a key role should be played by governments, universities, the private sector and international peer institutions.
The USB has been rated as one of only two African business schools with an A-rating for “universal business schools with major international influence” in the Eduniversal Official Selection.
The USB is the first and the only business school of a South African university to hold two international quality accreditations: EQUIS from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and AMBA from the Association of MBAs. The USB is the only member outside Europe of the European Doctoral Programmes Association in Management and Business Administration (EDAMBA). The USB is also a member of the USA-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
The USB has established partnerships with 59 leading international business schools.
