ENGINEERING: Hytec's Bigger Profile In Saldanha

Recent Western Cape Business News

HYTEC, the supplier of hydraulic components and systems in southern Africa, has expanded its footprint in the Western Cape and has opened a new office in Saldanha Bay. Following the establishment of this office was the supply of hydraulic systems for one of the largest iron ore stacker reclaimers in southern Africa in the port for Sandvik Materials Handling.

Through its presence at this port, Hytec is now able to service its main customers in the region – ArcelorMittal, Portnet, Exxaro, Duferco Steel Processing and Sea Harvest Corporation. The new building has enhanced customer service levels through more space, better facilities and a large workshop.

Hytec has made extensive use of its industry experience in the field of stacker reclaimers to provide Sandvik Materials Handling with a reliable and durable solution.

The National Ports Authority uses the machine in the Saldanha Bay port to stockpile and reclaim iron ore for onward shipment. The Saldanha stacker is capable of handling 10 000 tons of material per hour and features a monumental boom length of 60m.

Hytec supplied the complete hydraulic solution for the lifting system, which controls the height of the conveyor boom, as well as the hydraulics for the tripper car, the bypass chute and the stacking and reclaiming system. The entire system is powered by two 132kW electric motors, which drive two electronically controlled hydraulic pumps.
