VENTURES: Aquaculture To The Rescue?

Recent Western Cape Business News

SEKUNJALO’s aquaculture venture in Gansbaai seems to be progressing well.  According to Sekunjalo’s annual report the abalone farm performed well again – even with a drop in the dollar-based export pricing. No figures are provided to back up the statement, though.

But the report says the Marine Growers operation (acquired almost two years ago) has been fully integrated into Sekunjalo’s abalone farm at Gansbaai.

The Marine Growers acquisition has pushed the capacity at Gansbaai to 120-tons from 80 tons previously.

Sekunjalo CEO Khalid Abdulla says the Gansbaai farm will continue to be expanded. “As natural resources decline globally, we are exploring opportunities with an overseas partner and evaluating the farming of other species which would complement our existing activities.”
