MANAGEMENT: Assisting Small Business
Recent Western Cape Business News
With a view to helping Cape Town based SMEs improve their competitiveness in local and international markets, the UCT Graduate School of Business is inviting organisations in or close to the city precinct to participate in their Company Analysis programme during 2010.
The Company Analysis programme is the capstone course on both the full- and modular MBA programmes at the School. It involves students applying the knowledge and experience that they have gained during their studies in a practical and focused way in order to analyse organisations and identify opportunities for their future.
Typically groups spend approximately 40 hours over a number of weeks with management and staff in analysing their selected organisations. In the process, students also draw on their own pre-MBA work experience. There is a nominal R2 000 charge in order to participate. The charge covers the students' basic travel and materials expenses.
According to Professor Paul Sulcas of the UCT GSB, who manages the Company Analysis programme, it combines theory and practice in a cohesive way to identify and evaluate alternative options for an organisation, and offers possible 'blue-prints' for future growth.
The combined academic and practical inputs result in an in-depth and professional report, as well as a presentation to staff of the organisation in question. Confidentiality of information gathered is guaranteed as the students and UCT GSB staff sign confidentiality agreements.
