SHIPPING: Reefer Service Improved
Recent Western Cape Business News
The South Africa Europe Container Service (SAECS) has confirmed - further to its announcement (on November 3, 2009) of an additional shipping service to cater for the anticipated season increased in refrigerated exports - that it will introduce the first vessel in the Reefer Express (REX) service from week 7 (February 15, 2010) in Cape Town.
The REX service is an additional, ‘purely reefer’, container service designed to provide added capacity for refrigerated exports during the peak reefer season months of February to August.
The REX vessels will call Cape Town, Rotterdam (Uniport), Tilbury, Cape Town. Transit times for the REX service are comparable to the SAECS core service.
The DAL Madagascar will be the first vessel to be phased in (in week 7) followed by the Warnow Vaquita (in week 9). The details for the vessel entering the service in Week 11 will be made available at a later date.
The REX service will be flexed in terms of frequency and ports of call according to the seasonal demands of the perishable/ refrigerated products market and will supplement the capacity provided by the main weekly SAECS Core Service.
