PACKAGING: CCL Label's Stellar Month

Recent Western Cape Business News

CCL Label Cape received their Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) accreditation, Level 2 Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) status, as well as ISO accreditation, all within the same month (November last year).

CCL Industries says it is regarded as the market leader in label solutions for the beverage and FMCG markets, due to their global footprint. Their modern printing plant in the heart of the Cape Winelands caters specifically for the wine and beverage industries and is rapidly expanding. CCL Label Cape supports clients nationwide and has an office in Gauteng, with extensive distribution networks all over South Africa and neighbouring Africa. CCL Label is recognised globally as a progressive and innovative organisation, and CCL Label Cape has now reinforced this fact by simultaneously receiving its HACCP accreditation from the SABS, as well as a level 2 BBBEE status.

HACCP is a systematic preventive approach to food and packaging safety and is used in the food industry to identify potential food-safety hazards so that action can be taken to reduce or eliminate the likelihood that any such hazards are realised. The system is used at all stages of food production and preparation processes including packaging and distribution.

HACCP is a requirement of most internationally recognised food and packaging safety standards. The achievement underlines the fact that CCL is operating according to international standards in packaging safety. Accreditation gives CCL’s customers confidence that its products are safe and comply with stringent independent quality standards.

For us to emphasise the fact that we are a world class manufacturer, HACCP accreditation was a non negotiable requirement, it was an important point on our list of goals to achieve,” says Rafeek Evans, vice president and managing director of CCL Label Cape.

CCL Label Cape has also achieved a Level 2 Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) contributor status.

CCL’s aim included reinforcing our economic empowerment which we have achieved thanks to the continuing efforts and commitment of our staff, management and shareholders,” says Evans. “Our Level 2 rating is of particular significance to our customers since, in terms of the current codes, customers are able to recognise 125% of their spend with us as BBBEE procurement, thus considerably assisting them with their own BBBEE scorecards,” he says.

The other noteworthy achievement was CCL Label Cape receiving their ISO 9001:2008 accreditation, ensuring that all their activities conform to the highest assurance systems.
